In March 2022, SMU Libraries uploaded 331 items into SMU Libraries Digital Collections. Highlights include:
209 photographs and postcards, ca. 1903-1937, from the John Miller Morris Real Photograph Postcards and Photographs of Texas. This project was made possible by a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services and Texas State Library and Archives Commission (Grant Number TXT-22001). (2022). The images are from a number of counties across Texas, including Harris, Galveston, Gillespie, Llano, and more. Examples include scenes of oil fields in Humble, construction of buildings in Houston, ocean liners in Galveston, and many other depictions of life and history in Texas spanning several decades.
4 interviews have been added to the Southern Methodist University Oral History Interviews and Digital Humanities Student Projects collection. These interview, with Dr. David Chard, Chrisdya Houston, Laurence Lundy, and Sherri Scott are part of the Voices of SMU project.
1 volume from the Collection of Baldwin Locomotive Works Records. This handwritten notebook, entitled “Formula Book,” contains train diagrams and formulas.
40 items, ca. 1960-1969, from the Diane Wisdom Papers in the Archives of Women of the Southwest collection. These items include newspaper clippings about Diane Wisdom’s early success as a jazz singer in Dallas, as well as photographs and other images from the peak of Diane Wisdom’s career, in which she traveled the world with Ray Anthony, Frank Sinatra Jr., and others.
35 images, 1960-2004, from the Andy Hanson Photographs collection. These images span several decades and include negatives of photographs taken on the opening night of Willie Nelson’s Whiskey River, journalist Bobbie Wygant’s visit to Old Town in Dallas, and a 1960 visit to Dallas by John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson. Also included are several portraits of Andy Hanson, including one of him speaking in front of a photograph he took of Sophia Loren and Stanley Marcus.
12 folders of press releases have been added to the Texas Instruments Records collection. These releases cover content on events, shows, product releases, and internal TI affairs from 1965, 1966, and January-February 1967.
29 negatives, ca. 1932-1934, from the Robert Yarnall Richie Photograph Collection. These images include birds-eye and aerial views of estates, golf courses, and country clubs in New York and Florida, as well as images of aircraft and electrical towers. Aerial views include: James Rich Steers’ “Faircroft” estate, Hugh Grant Straus’ “Four Wind Acres” estate, Henry Phipps’ “Bonnie Blink” estate, Gerard Swope’s estate, Horace Clapp Sylvester, Jr.’s estate, George Arthur Schieren, Sr.’s “Beachleigh” estate, Jack Walter Schiffer’s estate, Reve Schley’s “Ripplebook” estate, and Henry N. Whitney’s estate.
1 diary, 1939, from Sir Ellice Victor Elias Sassoon Papers and Photographs. This diary, which was kept by Sir Sassoon in 1939, features a number of photographs, in addition to handwritten entries.
