SMU Libraries Digital Collections Update: February 2022

In February 2022, SMU Libraries uploaded 295 items into SMU Libraries Digital Collections. Highlights include:

210 images, ca. 1890s-1950 from the John Miller Morris Real Photographic Postcard and Photographs Collection. This project was made possible by a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services and Texas State Library and Archives Commission (Grant Number TXT-22001). (2022). Among these are images from across Texas, with particular focus on central and west Texas, including the San Angelo area, McCulloch County, Llano County, and others. These images show views of Texas towns of various sizes, family portraits, and picturesque landscapes.

4 interviews from to the Southern Methodist University Oral History Interviews and Digital Humanities Student Projects collection. These interviews, with Lexxi Clinton, Taylor Longacre, Alfreda Norman, and Barbara Lord Watkins are part of the Voices of SMU project.

11 photographs featuring Garry Weber and the 1957 SMU Mustangs football team from the Southern Methodist University Campus Memories collection, including two versions of the full team group photo.

4 photographs, 1941-1953, from the Tejas Girl Scout Council Records, 1922-1987. These images show Girl Scouts participating in various activities at Camp Kiwanis and McKinney Day Camp. Please note that two of these images are restricted for rights reasons.

10 items, 1922-1964, from the Stanley Marcus Papers. These items include newspaper clippings; photographs of Stanley Marcus, his parents, and others related to Neiman Marcus; and a copy of a 1927 program which accompanied a presentation about the Neiman Marcus Company.

7 photographs, 1921-1940s, from the George W. Cook Dallas/Texas Image Collection. These aerial photographs show Dallas and the surrounding area, including elevated views of White Rock Lake and downtown.

1 panorama and album cover, 1891, from Puebla, 1891. This album consists of six photographs which form a panorama of Puebla, Mexico when combined.

2 portraits, ca. 1860s, from Album de la Collection du Duc de Massa, Colonel des Guides de l’Empereur Napoleon III. These include a carte de visite portrait of Admiral Wilhelm von Tegetthoff and a cabinet card portrait of Napoleon III.

1 broadside, ca. 1920s, from Hey, boy!–Howdy!!! All aboard the “Texas Farm Boy Special” : see America … advertising a promotion sponsored by the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas (later Texas A&M University) and the Texas Chamber of Commerce which sent contest winners on a tour across several U.S. states.

1 timetable, 1875, from Rules of the Houston & Texas Central Railway and regulations for the running of trains : engineers and conductors will be held responsible for any violation of these rules … This item shows the timetable and rules and regulations for the Houston & Texas Central Railway.

6 photographs, 1869-1930s, from the Everett L. DeGolyer Jr. Collection of United States Railroad Photographs. These include images of locomotives from Chicago, Rock Island, and Pacific Railway; Fort Wayne, Jackson, and Saginaw; and Texas and Pacific Railway.

3 photographs, 1903-1930s, from the Collection of African American Photographs. Included among these is a portrait of Booker T. Washington, a group portrait of a family, and an image of Apostle Paul Sykes, a former slave and Oklahoma preacher.

1 broadside, 1912, from Advance styles, exclusive features : the Studebaker line for 1912 is now ready / Studebaker Bros. Co. of Texas, Dallas, Texas, which showcases the 1912 line of Studebaker buggies.

25 newspaper clippings, 2 mixed media works, 2 fliers and 1 postcard, ca. 1959-1967, from the Diane Wisdom Papers in the Archives of Women of the Southwest collection. These documents span the early years of Diane Wisdom’s career and chronicle her successes in clubs throughout Texas as well as performances in New York with Ray Anthony, The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, and Jackie Gleason, Don Adams, and Sam Donahue. Some items display metadata only due to rights-related restrictions.

15 videos, 1970, from the WFAA Newsfilm Collection, ca. 1960-1978 have been updated with annotations, which include information about the individual clips shown within each video.
