SMU Libraries Digital Collections Update: January 2022

In January 2022, SMU Libraries uploaded 338 items into SMU Libraries Digital Collections. Highlights include:

274 images, ca. 1885-1975, from the John Miller Morris Real Photographic Postcard and Photographs Collection. This project was made possible by a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services and Texas State Library and Archives Commission (Grant Number TXT-22001). (2022). These images showcase Texas from the Rio Grande valley to the northern borders of the state and depict life in towns of varying sizes, oil drilling operations, landscapes, significant buildings, and more. Of particular note is a number of cyanotypes that show scenes from several towns.

5 folders of press releases, 1964, from the Texas Instruments Records collection. These releases cover content on events, shows, product releases, and internal TI affairs.

24 stereographs, ca. 1874-1936, from the Banks McLaurin, Jr. Stereograph Collection. These images were taken in London and in several locations across India, and include images of a number of famous landmarks, including Westminster Abbey and Trafalgar Square, as well as views of Hindu temples along the Ganges River and mosques in Delhi.

30 items, ca. 1955-1989, from the Diane Wisdom Papers collection. These documents span the earlier years of Diane Wisdom’s career and chronicle her successes in Highland Park, at SMU, and with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra. Writers and photographers from The Dallas Morning News, Dallas Times Herald, and other publications are featured. Some items display metadata only due to rights-related restrictions.

5 interviews from the Southern Methodist University Oral History Interviews and Digital Humanities Student Projects collection. These interviews, with Jonathan Allen, Anh Dang, Michele Herod, Yikwon Kim, and Sarah Subramanian are part of the Voices of SMU project.

Now available in SMU Scholar: Volume 17 and Volume 18 of Field and Laboratory (1949-1950). This publication contains papers published by faculty, students, and alumni from SMU’s Science Division, from 1932-1959. The articles cover many scientific areas, including biology, chemistry, physics, meteorology, earth sciences, anthropology, and the history of science.
