In December 2021, SMU Libraries uploaded 153 items into SMU Libraries Digital Collections. Highlights include:
39 photographs, 1954-1967, from the Richard Steinheimer Photograph Collection. Highlights include five aerial shots from the Colorado Springs area and twenty-five photographs in Roseville, CA, including shots of the Barker Hotel, Zell’s Restaurant, the old Southern Pacific Railroad Depot, and Denio’s Farmer’s Market and Auction.
19 drawings, 1882-1916, from the Collection of Baldwin Locomotive Works Records. These include detail drawings of smoke stacks for two rail lines as well as erecting card drawings for the Government of Queensland, Bridgeport Malleable Iron, and others.
32 items, ca. 1927-1987, from Octavio Medellin Artwork and Papers. These images include several portraits of Mr. Medellin at work by several renowned Texas artists, such as Fred Darge, Lucy Maverick, Cecilia Steinfeldt, and Thomas Blackmon. Also included are several preliminary design sketches for projects by Mr. Medellin, including a proposal for a mosaic mural of St. Paul the Apostle, as well as a series of linocut printing blocks which were used to print his multi-colored “Mayan Hummingbird” print.
10 items, 1915-1921, from Southern Methodist University Course Catalogs. These catalogs contain general information and course descriptions from each of SMU’s programs of study for the academic years 1915-1916, as well as annual catalogs for 1917-1918, 1918-1919, and 1920-1921.
19 photographs, ca. 1860s-1918, from the Lawrence T. Jones III Texas Photography Collection. Of note among these images are several photographs of notable indigenous people, including the Kiowa chief Big Tree and the Southern Arapaho warrior Big Cow.
15 documents, ca. 1953-1984, from the Diane Wisdom Papers collection. These documents span 30 years of Diane Wisdom’s career and chronicle her early success at SMU and in Dallas to her appearances in Las Vegas and New York City. Many of these documents are promotional pamphlets and magazines showcasing activities and performances tourists could expect to encounter when visiting hotels, lounges, and clubs around the United States. Diane Wisdom appears alongside Tommy Dorsey and his Orchestra, Trish Turner, Frank Sinatra Jr., and many others. Also included is a self-made scrapbook of letters, telegrams, and ephemera dating to Diane Wisdom’s appearance on Arthur Godfrey’s Talent Scout Show in New York City. Please note that ten of the fifteen documents are restricted to on-campus use.

1 manuscript, ca. 1920, from Memorandum de los sucesos acaecidos al suscrito, en el tiempo que ha andado de revolucionario en contra del llamado Gobierno Constitucionalista, presidido por el arbitrario Venustiano Carranza : manuscript. This manuscript was written by Antero M. Valle and translated by Jonathan Angulo, a PhD candidate in History at SMU. It recounts events from 1916 to 1920, with a first hand account of skirmishes and battles, illuminated by eye-catching illustrations of locations and surroundings.
Now available in SMU Scholar: Volume 15 and Volume 16 of Field and Laboratory (1947-1948). This publication contains papers published by faculty, students, and alumni from SMU’s Science Division, from 1932-1959. The articles cover many scientific areas, including biology, chemistry, physics, meteorology, earth sciences, anthropology, and the history of science.
