In October 2021, SMU Libraries uploaded 329 items into SMU Libraries Digital Collections. Highlights include:
140 postcards, 1904-1953, from the John Miller Morris Real Photographic Postcards and Photographs of Texas collection. This project was made possible by a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services and Texas State Library and Archives Commission (Grant Number TXT-22001). (2022). Among these postcards are images of Baylor, Deaf Smith, Gray, Hale, Hutchinson, Potter, and Wheeler counties. The postcards display various oil field and crop scenes in the panhandle of Texas.
82 photographs, 1924-1929, from Southern Methodist University Photographs, 1924. These photographs were taken by Bremer Pond, a Boston landscape architect who was hired to develop a plan for the SMU campus layout. The images show Dallas Hall in its early years, McFarlin Auditorium under construction, early views of Hillcrest Avenue, and other early scenes of campus.
37 postcards, ca. 1913, from Elmer and Diane Powell Collection on Mexico and the Mexican Revolution. These images document scenes from the Decena Trágica and its aftermath. Shown in the postcards are Mexican Federal officials and generals, images of Federal soldiers and Felicista revolutionaries fighting in the streets of Mexico City, bombarded buildings and streets, interior views of damaged buildings, and images of the people of Mexico City who witnessed the battle.
58 items, 1907-2000, from the Stanley Marcus Papers collection. Highlights include correspondence on Grace Kelly’s visit to Dallas to receive the Neiman Marcus Award For Distinguished Service In The Field Of Fashion and a set of snapshots displaying holiday gift wrap and decorations.
6 interviews from the Southern Methodist University Oral History Interviews and Digital Humanities Student Projects collection. These interviews, with Xxavier Carter, Rev. Marcus Jones, Tonya Parker, Megan Sham, Denise Gonzales Stavely, and Rhonda Tankerson are part of the Voices of SMU project.
