CALL TO ARTISTS
An opportunity to exhibit artwork inspired by Dante on the 700th anniversary of his death. You may use any of his works or a depiction of the poet himself for inspiration. We are accepting 2D and 3D works only. The 3D works must fit on a display pedestal 16×16”. 2D works must be no longer than 30” on any side due to space and display limitations.
Celebration of Dante, hosted by Anthony J. Elia, Director of Bridwell Library. The artwork will be on display in the Gill Room and Blue Room of Bridwell Library. The event is August 31-September 2, 2021. The reception for the artwork on display will be Wednesday, September 1, 2021, from 6-8pm.
Work Media: 2D or 3D of any media. 2D material must be no larger than 30” on the longest side. 3D material must fit on a 16×16” display pedestal.
Entry Requirements: Please email a statement about your interpretation, with contact information and a digital image of the artwork proposed for the exhibition, to Rebecca Howdeshell at bhowdeshell@smu.edu. The digital image should be no smaller than 1000 pixels on the longest side. Due to space constraints, we can accept only one entry for each artist. The due date to send your intent to provide artwork for the exhibition is Tuesday, August 10, 2021 by 5pm.
Timeline: The artwork will be installed on Monday, August 30, 2021 and will be on display in the library until Friday, September 10, 2021. Pickup of artwork will be scheduled for Friday, September 10, 2021. Bridwell Library is unable to store artwork beyond the pickup date.
Selection Process: We hope to display as many pieces as possible yet we do have space limitations. All entries will be evaluated on relevance to the theme and suitability to the limited display space. There is no entry fee.
Notification to artist: You will receive follow-up information no later than Monday, August 16, 2021. This will include drop-off and pick up dates and times.
Reception: Wednesday, September 1, 2021, from 6-8pm at Bridwell Library. Refreshments will be served.
Publicity: We will publicize the event to the SMU community, as well as our mailing list. You may be contacted if we wish to feature your artwork in publicity material.
Sales: Your artwork may be for sale, however the transaction must be between the patron and the artist.
Insurance: Please note that while Bridwell Library will take all precautions to protect your artwork, we can accept no liability for damage or theft.
