In February 2021, SMU Libraries uploaded 547 items into SMU Libraries Digital Collections. Highlights include:
163 postcards, ca. 1900-1975, from the John Miller Morris Real Photographic Postcards and Photographs of Texas collection. This project was made possible by a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services and Texas State Library and Archives Commission (Grant Number TXT-21010). (2021). These postcards include images of everyday life in cities and small towns across a number of Texas counties, as well as images from the Texas-Mexico border. Of particular note are photographs of the U.S. Army in Marfa and of the Barnum and Bailey circus in El Paso.
5 interviews from the Southern Methodist University Oral History Interviews and Digital Humanities Student Projects collection. These interviews, Priscilla Garza, Brittany Levingston, Rev. Payton Parker, Lisa Tran, and Rev. Christian Watkins with are part of the Voices of SMU project.
14 postcards, 1907-1916, from the Calvin Clyde, Jr. collection of postcards. These vintage Valentine’s Day postcards feature images of flowers and cherubs, romantic poems, and cartoons.
286 engine drawings, 1908-1941, from Baldwin Locomotive Works Records. These drawings were created for a number of foreign railroads from all over the world, including railways in Argentina, Brazil, South Africa, and more.
79 film negatives, ca. 1876-1935, from the Collection of Dallas Morning News negatives and copy photographs. All of these images depict scenes of Dallas and nearby environs, including images of the State Fair of Texas and the Trinity River Levee Project. Of particular note are images of the State Fair of Texas which show the evolution of the fairgrounds buildings from the late 1800s to the 1930s, as well as a portrait of the Dallas Chief of Police J.C. Arnold and several images of early Dallas Fire Department firefighters and fire engines.
