SMU Libraries Digital Collections Update: September 2020

In September 2020, SMU Libraries uploaded 175 items into SMU Libraries Digital Collections. Highlights include:

22 film negatives, ca. 1939, from the Robert Yarnall Richie Photograph Collection. These images were taken in Aruba and Venezuela and focus on the area’s petroleum industry. Subjects include the Lago Oil and Transport Co. refinery and Lago Colony in Aruba, the San Lorenzo refinery in Venezuela, and related photographs of workers, equipment, and industrial structures.

4 interviews from Southern Methodist University Oral History Interviews and Digital Humanities Student Projects. These interviews, with Roberto Andrade, Rosangelica Castillo, Mario Gonzalez, and Antonio Medellin are part of the Voices of SMU project.

55 postcards, ca. 1904-1930s, from the new John Miller Morris Real Photographic Postcards and Photographs of Texas collection. These postcards from the Rio Grande Valley and South Texas highlight everyday life in the first quarter of the 20^th century, with numerous pictures of the Texas-Mexican border including Hispanic Americans and/or Mexican people.

12 folders of press releases, 1953-1958, from the Texas Instruments Records collection. These cover events such as acquisitions and mergers, promotions, hirings, and new product announcements, as well as financial reports for the company during the period of May 1953 through September 1958.

48 photographs and negatives, 1956-1967, from the Richard Steinheimer Photograph Collection. These images were taken during several trips Steinheimer took throughout California, and include photographs of what he thought might be one of the last trips of the “San Joaquin Daylight” and a number of images of a train wreck being cleared at Emigrant Gap.

18 letters from John C. Cox, Jr., written to his parents and brother Charles, were added to the John C. Cox, Jr. World War II Papers collection. These letters sent were during late 1944 and early 1945 when Cox was stationed in the Philippines, and describe his experiences there.
