In June 2020, SMU Libraries uploaded 379 items into SMU Libraries Digital Collections. Highlights include:
19 images, ca. 1910-1920, from the Elmer and Diane Powell Collection on Mexico and the Mexican Revolution. These images, taken around Mexico, feature Mexican and United States soldiers, several Mexican generals, and various other scenes. One example is a squadron of airplanes being prepared for use in the campaign against Pancho Villa.
5 interviews from the Southern Methodist University Oral History Interviews and Digital Humanities Student Projects collection. These interviews, with Isabel Arecellana, Ify Achu, Natalia Albores, Chandler English, and Rev. Dr. Kwesi Kamau, are part of the Voices of SMU project.
14 obsolete and canceled Texas currency notes ca. 1821-1865, from the Rowe-Barr Collection of Texas Currency. Among these items are a Republic of Texas treasury warrant from Austin, a certificate of stock in the town of Menard, and centavo notes from Nacogdoches in the Mexican province of Coahuila y Tejas, among others.
100 negatives, 1949-1963, from the Richard Steinheimer Photograph Collection. These images, taken primarily in California, showcase views throughout San Francisco and into Sierra Nevada. Included are images of San Francisco Municipal Railway cars on various streets throughout the city, as well as views of the Muni’s yard and rail car barn at night. There are a number of striking photographs taken in snowy conditions around Donner Pass, Cold Stream Canyon, and Crystal Lake in Sierra Nevada.
234 copy negatives, 1870s-1930s, from the Collection of Dallas Morning News negatives and copy photographs. Highlights include numerous photographs of the WFAA station in Grapevine under construction and photographs of the construction process for the triple underpass (Elm, Commerce and Main Streets) in downtown Dallas.
