CUL Digital Collections Update: March 2015

In March 2015, SMU’s Central University Libraries uploaded 406 items into CUL Digital Collections.

Highlights include:

110 Texas railroad negatives from the Everett L. DeGolyer Jr. Collection of United States Railroad Photographs as part of the Texas Treasures FY2015 grant program, sponsored by the by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission and funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Railroads include the Missouri Pacific Railroad Company and St. Louis Southwestern Railway Company, 1937-1976. Locations include Artesia Wells, Big Wells, Carrizo Springs, Conroe, Corsicana, Cotulla, Crystal City, Dallas, Denison, Devine, Dilley, Encinal, Fort Worth, Grand Saline, Laredo, Longview, Navasota, New Braunfels, Odem, Round Rock, San Antonio, Sherman, Texarkana, Tyler, and Von Ormy.

22 Civil War items, including stereographs, cartes de visite, portraits, and photographs, including 3 plates from Alexander Gardner’s Photographic Sketch Book of the War and Incidents of the War Series.

126 drawings from the Potter Art Iron Studios Collection, including 76 drawings from Box 12 and 50 drawings from Box 15. Box 12 contains mainly light fixtures, including wall sconces, chandeliers, pendant lights, and mounted lights. Box 15 contains fire screens, as well as andirons, a nugget box, fireplace frames, a fireplace bench, a fireplace hood, and a log rest.

85 photographs from the Doris A. and Lawrence H. Budner Theodore Roosevelt Photograph Collection. Topics include Roosevelt’s 1903 Western Tour and 1905 New England Tour; travels abroad to Europe, Panama, Egypt and the Sudan; and philanthropic work and appearance at events in and around the state of New York.

23 stereographs, ca. 1850s-1870s, from the Banks McLaurin, Jr. Stereograph Collection. Many of these early stereo views feature picturesque scenes in New Hampshire, New York state, the Swiss and French Alps, the Pyrenees, Paris and southern France.
