Scott Mascianica

Scott Mascianica is a litigation partner in Holland & Knight’s Dallas office and co-leader of the firm’s Securities Enforcement Defense group. Mr. Mascianica has a national practice where he regularly advises businesses and individuals in connection with government and internal investigations, enforcement-related litigation, and regulatory and compliance issues.  Prior to joining Holland & Knight, he served as Assistant Regional Director for the SEC’s Enforcement Division for the Fort Worth Regional Office where he supervised a team of experienced enforcement attorneys and accountants on scores of confidential investigations that resulted in judgments totaling more than $300 million in monetary relief.  He also served two years as Special Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Colorado.  Prior to his time at the SEC, Scott worked for two AmLaw 100 law firms, where his practice focused on internal investigations and white collar defense.  Prior to practicing as an attorney, Scott worked as a forensic consultant at a Big Four accounting firm.

Jay Johnson

Jay Johnson is Deputy Chief Counsel and Managing Director in the Technology, Digital and Innovation legal group at Charles Schwab and oversees privacy and cybersecurity for the company’s legal team.  He also is an adjunct professor at the SMU Dedman School of Law, where he developed and teaches the school’s flagship class on data privacy and cybersecurity law.  Jay previously was a partner in Jones Day’s Cybersecurity, Privacy, and Data Protection practice group and an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Eastern District of Texas.  At the U.S. Attorney’s Office, he coordinated the U.S. Attorney’s efforts to investigate and prosecute cybercrime and IP theft, and he served as the primary internal resource for the district’s prosecutors on issues related to the collection and use of electronic evidence. At the outset of his career, Jay clerked for federal judges in the District of Kansas and at the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

Eric Werner

Eric Werner is the Associate Director of the Securities and Exchange Commission’s Fort Worth Regional Office, where he heads the agency’s enforcement activities in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Kansas. Prior to his appointment as Associate Director, Mr. Werner worked in the SEC’s Division of Enforcement as an investigative staff attorney, in the Office of Chief Counsel, and in supervisory positions as Branch Chief and Assistant Director where he was a member of the Complex Financial Instruments Unit and the Public Finance Abuse Unit.  Mr. Werner has worked on matters involving virtually every aspect of the securities markets, including financial fraud, hedge funds, insider trading, market manipulation, municipal securities, offering fraud, broker-dealers, and investment advisers. Mr. Werner earned his law degree from the Washington University School of Law and his undergraduate degree from Occidental College.
