Email from Stephanie

Hi all,
I hope you are doing well and getting the information you need. I’m sure you saw Faye Walter’s message that the in-person training sessions have been moved to an online format. This is good news, indeed, and news that was expected. I’ve been emailing Faye and she has been very responsive and helpful, so reach out to her if you need assistance.
Many of you have sent me your plans for after the break, thank you very much. I still need to hear from a few of you, and I especially need to know if there is anything else you need from me or Darryl in order to be able to teach remotely. We are working with IT and the Dean’s office to get as much help to folks as we can. Some requests we can take care of soon, and some we need to look into. We’ll do the best we can.
I’ve already met with several people by phone to walk them through some of the tools we have. Believe me, I’m talking basic stuff since I’m learning as we go, too, and am happy to talk with you if you have any questions or concerns.
In the meantime, I want to share a recent note from Darryl to other faculty members:
“… if you are fully capable of teaching your classes from home, then you should do so. That means that if you have all of the technology at home that will allow you to do what you need to teach, and it is reliable, then you should use it. If you don’t, then you should teach from campus where the technology is available. Since there won’t be anyone in the classrooms but the instructor, there’s no possibility of infecting other people there.

If is, of course, possible for any one of us to infect another person. But the university is minimizing risk, not eliminating it. What we need, as Steph has requested, is your plan for teaching online, regardless of where you do it.”

So, the bottom line is: do what you need to do to teach your classes the best you can. The only thing I ask, is for you to keep me posted on what you are doing so we have that information.

We will all be fine; you need to do what works best for you and your situation.

Thanks, and good luck. Keep washing your hands!

Stephanie
