As they reached the halfway point of their year-long fellowship this month, SMU’s 2019-2020 cohort of District Leadership Fellows came together to discuss their personal and district progress.
At the January meeting of the District Leadership Fellows, Fellows discussed their impact projects and helped one another develop strategies and best practices for their districts. Dr. Michelle Cline of Throckmorton ISD and Dr. Lamont Smith of Elkhart ISD delivered presentations on the accountability check they have designed within their school districts.
Dr. Smith outlined his Impact Model, a multi-pronged approach to sustaining academic achievement and increasing instructional capacity in his district. With a focus on team accountability sessions, newsletters, and informal walks, Dr. Smith’s plan prioritizes communication between leaders at all levels.
Dr. Cline outlined how the Throckmorton community shared their vision and beliefs to create a learner profile for Throckmorton ISD students. This profile focuses on educating students to become life-long learners, responsible citizens, effective communicators, college- and career-ready, and persons of strong character.
The January meeting closed with a group reflection on how to extend Fellows’ leadership development progress into the upcoming semester.
