September is Workforce Development Month

Every September, the U.S. celebrates American workers’ important contributions to the country. Labor Day, observed on the first Monday in September, was declared a federal holiday in 1894.  Eleven decades later, the National Association of Workforce Development Professionals (NAWDP) designated September as Workforce Development Month to raise awareness about the importance of the workforce industry to the national economy.

The TWC and the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA)

The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) manages more than one hundred workforce solutions offices across the state, including eight in Dallas County. Each center serves individuals, organizations and employers alike with resources, insights, and training programs. Every year, 1 out of every 12 Americans interacts with the workforce development system!

As a key initiative, each workforce solutions office facilitates programs that are funded by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). WIOA programs offer targeted training, skill development, personalized career planning, placement and ongoing support to qualified individuals.
