SMU Campus Community Members –
As a reminder, the season is approaching when SMU participates in energy curtailment activities during periods of high energy usage in North Texas. When the region’s electrical grid nears capacity, SMU reduces energy consumption by allowing building temperature set points to increase two degrees.
SCHEDULE
- June through September
- Typically for a period of less than 2 hours
- Following a curtailment, the set points will automatically return to normal operating ranges
- Energy curtailments can occur multiple times a month
BUILDINGS
- Historically, exempt spaces on campus will not be affected
ADVANCE NOTICE
- As a courtesy, you will be notified via campus-wide email before a curtailment
WAYS TO ASSIST IN REDUCING ENERGY CONSUMPTION:
- Leaving windows and doors closed when the air conditioning is running
- Adjusting window blinds to block the sun’s heat
- Turning off unnecessary lighting
- Putting computers in sleep mode when not in use
Thank You for Your Partnership in this Effort
