Food insecurity is defined as the disruption of food intake or eating patterns because of lack of resources—financial and otherwise. The USDA defines food insecurity as a lack of consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. Food insecurity can lead to poor performance in work and/or school as well as other long-lasting effects.
