Tosin Ilesanmi’s Reflection:
My internship through the SMU English Department and the Dallas Institute of Humanities over the summer has been an incredibly purposeful and transformative experience for me. I had the opportunity to combine my academic interests with practical skills by working with the marketing team under the guidance of Mr. Diggs and Dr. Ali. Through this role, I developed a deeper appreciation for the importance of creativity in advancing the mission of the Dallas Institute of Humanities.
From coordinating teachers in the Sue Rose program to interviewing them about their experiences and refining web content, I learned how small details can make a large impact and how organizations can connect with their audiences effectively. More importantly, I witnessed firsthand how the humanities can inspire reflection, build community, and shape meaningful dialogue. This internship also pushed me to grow personally. It taught me how to balance responsibilities, meet deadlines, and communicate effectively. I discovered my ability to adapt quickly, think on the spot, and contribute solutions. Most of all, the experience reinforced my passion for web content creation. I am grateful for the mentorship, guidance, and trust I received throughout the summer, and I look forward to applying everything I’ve learned.
