Dakota Rose Reflects on Moonslinger Productions Internship

Dakota Rose’s Reflection:

This summer, I had the amazing opportunity to intern with Emmy-nominated Soo Hugh’s production company, Moonslinger Productions. During my internship, I explored both administrative and creative aspects of the film and TV industry. I learned to properly analyze literary materials in various stages of the production process, from manuscripts and story outlines to full-length TV pilots ready to be sent to studios. I worked with real samples from aspiring writers and wrote script coverage on these materials, essentially reviewing them to determine whether they would make a good TV show for our company to pursue.

I regularly met with company leads to discuss what we had read. I practiced my skills in more creative ways by writing a short screenplay and receiving feedback from industry professionals. Additionally, I had informational meetings with each person in the company, including Soo Hugh, and attended seminars to better understand the industry, including how to get a job in the field, how the TV/film ecosystem works, and how to properly read and analyze material. I had the chance to make connections within Moonslinger Productions and with other industry professionals.

As a result of my work this summer, I was offered the opportunity to continue my internship at Moonslinger Productions through the fall. I am the company’s first fall intern. I am eternally grateful to the SMU English Department, especially Richard Hermes and Charles Wuest, who introduced me to this opportunity and supported me throughout the internship.
