English Grad Students Claim Top Department Awards for 2024-2025 School Year

The Department of English is excited to announce its annual writing and teaching awards went to four exceptional graduate students during the 2024-2025 academic year. The Michael Pueppke Writing Prize honors an outstanding essay by a graduate student in SMU’s Ph.D. program in English Literature. This year’s winner is Emily Snyder’s essay “I Shall Finish by Drawing a Picture: The Diaries of Sarah Gooll Putnam.” In 2024-2025, the department expanded its teaching awards to include an award for the teaching of literature and an award for the teaching of writing. This year’s recipient of the Nina Schwartz Graduate Student Teaching Award for the teaching of writing is Kaleigh Langston, and Ally Barber and Rosanne Brooks have received the Nina Schwartz Graduate Student Teaching Award for the teaching of literature.
