Myria Perez, a 2018 graduate of SMU with degrees in geology and anthropology, was recently featured in a CBS Evening News segment about a new exhibit at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C.
#IfThenSheCan – The Exhibit features 120 life-size 3D-printed statues of women who have made an impact in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields. Perez, an ardent advocate for increasing the number of women in STEM disciplines, is a fossil preparator at the Smithsonian.
In 2019, she was one of 125 women innovators across the country who were selected to be an AAAS IF/THEN ambassador. Perez was part of the SMU team that developed and installed the Sea Monsters Unearthed: Life in Angola’s Ancient Seas exhibit currently on display at the Smithsonian. WATCH
