The Godbey Lecture Series

Event Date: 03/07/2019

Location: Meadows Museum – Jones Hall

Time: 5:15 PM Reception, 6:00 PM Lecture

The story of the siege of the Aztec capital by the Spanish invaders, and the ultimate destruction of this indigenous empire in central Mexico have relied largely on Spanish accounts: principally the letters of Cortés and a chronicle penned by a Spanish conquistador in the Mexican expedition, Bernal Díaz del Castillo. The lecture challenges this largely Spanish narrative by exploring the role of the indigenous allies, who fought with the Spanish invaders in a great insurrection to overthrow the Aztec Empire.
