A reminder that SMU is closed and all classes are canceled on Tuesday, February 16.
The state’s rotating power outages are more widespread and lasting longer than anticipated impacting our community and interrupting virtual instruction. The outages, created by the extreme weather, are also causing a loss of heat in some buildings on campus, so please dress warmly, plan ahead and power up electronic devices when possible. Facilities crews are continuing to salt and sand walkways across campus. Umphrey Lee Dining is fully open, Arnold Dining is open for limited take-out, and the Dr. Bob Smith Health Center is offering limited services (check website for details.) Other campus operations such as Meadows Museum, Dedman Center for Lifetime Sports and SMU Libraries will remain closed. After an outage, it may take several hours to bring some campus buildings back to full heating capacity, so please plan accordingly to stay warm and protect any sensitive equipment.
We will continue to monitor the weather’s progress and provide updates on the impact to campus academics and operations via SMU Aware email, Twitter and Facebook. Please check the campus policy on weather and other emergency conditions for more information.
