Severe weather update [4/26/23]

Overview from National Weather Service:

Widespread severe thunderstorms are expected Wednesday afternoon into the night with all hazards possible, including the possibility of large hail and damaging winds.

  • Following a round of morning showers and thunderstorms in North Texas, severe thunderstorms may develop near and south of a stalled front in the early afternoon (about 1-2pm).
    • These initial storms would be most likely near and south of I-20, and could pose threats for very large hail and tornadoes.
  • Additional widespread severe thunderstorms are expected to form along a cold front to the west later in the afternoon which will move through most of the area during the evening.
    • These storms could initially be isolated with threats for very large hail and tornadoes before merging into one or more lines. This will transition the main threat to damaging winds with perhaps embedded spin-up tornadoes as storms move into and east of the I-35 corridor.
  • Storms will continue to push southeast into Central and East Texas later Wednesday evening and overnight with mainly threats for damaging winds and hail.
  • There will also be a potential for flash flooding, with isolated rainfall totals possibly exceeding 4 inches. This would be most likely roughly from the DFW Metroplex southeastward.
