“Trade, Technology and Inequality”

Thursday & Friday, March 1-2, 2018

The Federal Reserve Bank Dallas and the John Goodwin Tower Center for Political Studies at Southern Methodist University are organizing a two-day conference on “Trade, Technology and Inequality” that will be held on the campus of SMU on Thursday, March 1, and at the head office of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas on Friday, March 2, 2018. The purpose of the conference is to better understand the relative importance of international trade and technological change as drivers of the increased inequality in incomes and wealth that has characterized the U.S. economy in recent years, and to discuss potential policy responses.

Among the confirmed speakers are Richard Baldwin (Graduate Institute, Geneva), James Galbraith (UT Austin), Kent Hughes (Wilson Center), Aparna Mathur (American Enterprise Institute), John McLaren (University of Virginia) and Timothy Smeeding (University of Michigan).

Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas President Robert Kaplan will deliver opening remarks on Friday, March 2.

The conference is being funded by the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, the Tower Center, and the Jno. E. Owens memorial Foundation.
