On Tuesday October 21st, 2025, the SMU Tower Center hosted the Middle East Lecture: The Aftermath of 10/7 featuring Brian Katulis, a senior fellow at the Middle East Institute. Katulis discussed prominent topics involving U.S. policy towards the Middle East under the Trump Administration such as U.S. strikes against Iran, the lift in sanctions against Syria, and the Israel-Palestine conflict. His presentation assessed whether Trump’s current strategy involving transactional diplomacy, selective military engagement, and leveraging America’s economic power is likely to create lasting in security in the Middle East.
