In the News: A case for Texas exceptionalism

Texas is exceptional, as our Senior Fellow Pia Orrenius explains in her recent op-ed in the Dallas Morning News. She explains some of the main reasons that have made Texas exceptional in job creation, business formation and migration.

One of the key findings: Texas is the stickiest state in the nation. Most of the people who are born here and who move here stay, and this has helped fuel its growth.

She also found that Texas is successful when it comes to business dynamics. Texas has a higher business formation rate than almost all other states, and this is mostly because of the high rate of business startups.

But what about the future? Education is key – but also, as population starts to age, Texas might have to look to international migration once again to continue growing at this pace.
