Temerlin Faculty and Graduate Student Present at AAA Conference

Temerlin Advertising Institute faculty and one graduate student presented their current research at The American Academy of Advertising (AAA) conference in Albuquerque on April 4-7, 2013. Several also participated on pre-conference informational panels.

Dr. Steve Edwards participated on the panels “Navigating the Review Process and Getting Published” and “The Art and Craft of Successful Reviewing.” He was also featured in the “Meet the Editors” session, as the editor of The Journal of Interactive Advertising.

Dr. Carrie La Ferle’s also spoke on two panels, “Your Future in Advertising Education”  and “Teaching International Advertising”.

Dr. Edwards and Dr. La Ferle presented their research paper “Women’s (40+) Perceptions of Digitally Retouched Models in Product Relevant vs. Irrelevant Advertisements.”

Dr. Hye Jin Yoon presented her paper “Who Likes and Shares Comedic Violence Ads? Factors Affecting Attitude and Sharing Intention.”

Dr. Sidharth Muralidharan presented his work on “Examining the Impact of Celebrity Endorser Type on the Advertising Attitudes and Purchase Intentions.”

Dr. Yongjun Sung presented two papers. The first was “Nothing’s Gonna Change My Love for You: The Effect of Brand Identity Fusion,” followed by “Boundary Effects on Review Ratings: The Role of Susceptibility to Interpersonal Influence on Online Consumer Reviews.”

Temerlin Advertising Institute graduate student, Jessica Miller, presented her work “Dreaming in Pictures: Pinterest and the Visual Imagination,” in collaboration with Barbara Phillips from the University of Saskatchewan.

TAI Students Win Two AAF Tenth District ADDY Awards

Three Temerlin Advertising Students won ADDY awards for their work on Seagate and Crayola campaigns. The campaigns were produced in their Advanced Portfolio class, instructed by Dev Gupta.

Nicole Hodges (undergraduate senior), Julia Kilgore Heath and Alex Jarzemsky (graduate students) collaborated on the Crayola campaign, which received a Student Silver ADDY. Julia and Alex worked together on the Seagate project, which was awarded a Student Gold ADDY.

The American Advertising Federation (AAF) Tenth District ADDY’s are a culmination of creative work by students who attend universities in AAF’s Tenth District, which includes Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas.  For a complete list of winners, click here.

TAI Graduate Student’s Creative Work Wins 2012 Houston Silver ADDY

Arturo Lee is pursuing a Master of Arts in Advertising at TAI and was part of the winning team that won the Houston Silver Addy at the AAF’s recently concluded 2012 10th District Addy awards. Being a creative, Arturo helped in the concepting and producing of the award-winning TV spot called “Victory Lane” for Walmart. Arturo Durán who is the associate creative director for Lopez Negrete Communications and Arturo’s (Lee) supervisor, says, “Arturo was a great help to the creative team for the Walmart account. He helped develop the creative for the layaway campaign, among others, from ideation to writing to client presentation. The campaign was entered into the Houston Addy Awards and received a Citation of Excellence. The TV spot was so well received by the client, that the agency was tasked with producing a bilingual version to go beyond the Spanish speaking market.” In terms of Arturo’s work ethic, he adds that “Arturo has a great attitude and is always making himself useful. He’s a quick learner, has a great eye for the arts and is constantly trying to deliver top quality work. It was a pleasure working with him.”
