On November 8, 2024, Corey Clark, PhD, of the SMU Guildhall and Department of Computer Science, took the stage at the Technology-Enhanced Immersive Learning (TEIL) Seminar Series with a presentation that invited participants to think beyond traditional AI uses. His talk, titled “Bridging the Gap in AI: From Language Models to Intelligent Collaborators,” attracted an audience of students, educators, and researchers. They gathered to explore how AI, specifically language models, can evolve into true collaborators rather than remaining tools of passive use.

On October 11, 2024, the Technology-Enhanced Immersive Learning (TEIL) Seminar Series continued with an insightful presentation by Lin Lin Lipsmeyer, EdD, from the Department of Teaching and Learning at Southern Methodist University (SMU). Building on the momentum of the previous month’s seminar, Dr. Lipsmeyer’s talk was titled “Leveraging AI and Advanced Technologies to Enhance Creativity, Information Processing, and Personalized Learning.” This event brought together students, educators, and researchers eager to explore the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and education, with a special focus on how these technologies can foster creativity and improve personalized learning experiences.

This first event of the year brought together educators, technologists, and innovators from the SMU community to discuss the growing role of technology in education.

Last week, TEIL faculty members participated in the Empowering Learners for the Age of AI (ELAI) 2023 Global Conference. ELAI discusses the research and practice of using AI in schools, universities, and corporations. Topics discussed in this conference included the potential of AI as a tool in learning, teaching, and developing, how AI can be used to progress education, and how to develop students’ AI literacy.
