Reading for a Reason Volunteers Needed

Reading for a Reason will hold its fourth annual event Friday, March 31st from 11-1pm at Southern Methodist University. The event will bring first grade students and their parents to campus. While students spend time reading and engaging in literacy activities with college students, their parents will spend time with SMU Simmons School of Education faculty learning the most effective ways to read to their children.

The purpose of the event is to promote literacy among elementary students in underprivileged parts of Dallas and to educate their parents how best to support their young students. Additionally, we want to raise awareness of literacy issues in Dallas among college students to foster a greater spirit of service.
