Position: Master Reading Teacher / Reading Intervention Specialist –
St. Philip’s School & Community Center, a private Christian school for PreK2-6th grade in Dallas, Texas, is seeking a qualified Master Reading Teacher / Reading Intervention Specialist.
This position is funded by a three-year grant. Grant funded personnel must comply with all St. Philip’s School & Community Center policies and procedures.
Job Summary: 
To establish, coordinate, and perform all duties relating to the Reading Resource Dyslexia Program grant to include implementing a program of literacy intervention services for students diagnosed with dyslexia or identified to be at risk for dyslexia or reading difficulties.
Duties/Responsibilities: 
The Master Reading Teacher/Reading Intervention Specialist’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Provides students identified as having dyslexia with appropriate strategies, learning activities, and experience to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, academic, emotional, behavioral, and social growth.
  • Delivers instruction that meets standards for dyslexia instruction.
  • Assists the teachers and the students in reading, reading intervention, and the implementation of reading strategies.
  • Provides before school, after school, during school, or Saturday tutoring/language therapy support for at-risk identified students and students identified with dyslexia.
  • Develops individual plans to support success for at risk students with the student support teams.
  • Applies knowledge of the interrelated components of reading across all developmental stages, including oral language, phonological and phonemic awareness, the alphabetic principle, word analysis, fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, written language, and concepts of print, and has expertise in reading instruction at the primary and intermediate school level.
  • Applies knowledge of reading difficulties, dyslexia, and reading disabilities to facilitate and promote literacy.
  • Facilitates appropriate, research-based reading instruction by communicating and collaborating with educational personnel; mentoring, coaching, and consulting with colleagues.
  • Supports the Mission and Vision of St. Philip’s School and Community Center.
  • Maintains a professional appearance.
  • Maintains a professional and positive rapport with parents/co-workers/administration/School Board.
  • Performs other duties may be assigned
  • Reports to: Principal: All school year, including summer.
Work Environment and Physical Demands 
  • Normal physical activity including some bending, pushing, pulling, and lifting and carrying, which may range up to 35 lbs. upon occasion.
Education and/or Experience 
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT) or License Dyslexia Therapist is strongly preferred.
  • Texas Reading Specialist teaching certificate or without a reading teacher certificate,
    • Has completed an approved reading specialist Educator Preparation Program (EPP) and completed the required state of Texas test; or
    • Currently enrolled in an accredited IMSLEC program pursuing an academic language therapy certification with one year of dyslexia instructional experience.
Failure to obtain and maintain required certification/licensure in the state of Texas will result in termination of employment.
One year or experience in tutoring or delivering formal language therapy in a program accredited by International Multisensory Structured Language Educational Council (IMSLEC) is preferred.
Three years teaching experience in core areas, reading, learning disabilities, or special education is preferred.
