The Dedman College Center for Academic-Community Engagement (ACE) is participating in the Alternative Breaks trip to New Orleans in December. Participants in the trip, which is co-sponsored by ACE and the office of Community Engagement and Leadership, are working with Youth Rebuilding New Orleans. Continue reading
As part of the SMU Alternative Break Program, students are traveling during winter break to communities to engage in service and experiential learning. Students are serving with Habitat for Humanity in Little Rock, Arkansas; and in New Orleans, they are doing recovery work. Continue reading
During January 2011, 12 J-Term students in the course “Environmental Communications: Lessons Learned from the BP Oil Spill” will travel with Nina Flournoy, senior lecturer of communication studies in Meadows School of the Arts, on a 10-day journey to New Orleans and the Gulf Coast to examine the communication strategies surrounding the worst environmental disaster in U.S. history Continue reading
Eleven students and staff are traveling to New Orleans in December as part of Alternative Winter Break 2010. They will volunteer with the nonprofit organization Phoenix of New Orleans, helping rebuild houses and community sites while exploring recovery efforts five years after Hurricane Katrina.
