What better way to start 2013 than a semester in Spain? I can't believe I leave in just fourteen hours to embark on what I know will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Whenever the topic of me studying abroad came up, I found myself facing the "Are you excited?" question pretty often. And believe me, I am so excited - I have wanted to study abroad since high school, but I'm definitely feeling a number of other emotions, especially now that it is actually happening. Cassandra is a senior majoring in Spanish and psychology in Dedman College and the recipient of the Marion Tower and other scholarships. During fall 2011, she is studying with SMU-in-Spain. She is looking forward to submerging herself in Spanish culture and learning how Spain has become what it is today.
Ashley is a junior majoring in Spanish and psychology in Dedman College and an SMU Distinguished Scholar. During 2011-12 she is participating in SMU-in-Spain. She is eager to improve her Spanish, to get to know other students in the program and to explore Madrid and the rest of Europe.
Allison is a junior majoring in international studies in Dedman College, with minors in Spanish and political science. Allison is the recipient of scholarships including the SMU Distinguished Scholarship and Marion Tower Study Abroad Scholarship. During spring 2011 she is studying in Madrid with the SMU-in-Spain program and is looking forward to exploring the country's culture, people and cities.
Catherine is a senior Distinguished Scholar who is majoring in biology and anthropology, with a Spanish minor, in Dedman College. She received a Richter fellowship for summer 2010 to travel to Madrid and research the integration of people with disabilities into Spanish society.
Corbin, a sophomore electrical engineering major in the Lyle School of Engineering and a President's Scholar, is participating in SMU-in-Spain during Spring 2010. He plans to immerse himself in the culture and language, and take courses including modern painters and Spanish civilization.
Eric, a junior majoring in accountin in the Cox School of Business and Spanish in Dedman College, is a Hunt Leadership Scholar and Cox BBA Scholar. In Fall 2009, he is living and studying in Spain's capital through the SMU-in-Spain program. Having never before traveled to Europe, he says he is hoping to see and experience a lifestyle different from the one he knows and to become more proficient in the language that he has come to love.
Federico is a senior majoring in political science and foreign languages, with a concentration in Spanish and French, in Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences. The recipient of a Marion Tower Study Abroad Scholarship for Fall 2009, Federico is studying at the Fundacion Jose Ortega y Gasset in Madrid through SMU-in-Spain. He previously studied abroad in 2007 through SMU-in-Paris.
