Lyle School of Engineering
Maggie I. is a graduate student studying design and innovation. She was awarded a Maguire and Irby Family Foundation Public Service Fellowship for summer 2017 from SMU’s Cary M. Maguire Center for Ethics and Public Responsibility. She is spending the summer learning more about compressed earth block technology, and designing modular building systems for rural communities. Elizabeth is a sophomore majoring in mechanical engineering in the Lyle School of Engineering. She was awarded a Maguire and Irby Family Foundation Public Service Internship from the Cary M. Maguire Center for Ethics and Public Responsibility at SMU. During summer 2013, Elizabeth is working in Bangalore, India, with the Leave UR Mark organization. Continue reading
Lade is a junior President’s Scholar majoring in mechanical engineering in the Lyle School of Engineering and mathematics in Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences, with a minor in art in Meadows School of the Arts. During summer 2013, she is participating in SMU-in-Bali. Continue reading
Rachel is a junior majoring in management science in the Lyle School of Engineering, with a minor in business administration in the Cox School of Business. During spring 2013, she is studying in Perth with SMU-in-Australia and is looking forward to exploring the country. Continue reading
Lade is a sophomore majoring in mechanical engineering in the Lyle School of Engineering and mathematics in Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences, with a minor in art in Meadows School of the Arts. She was awarded a Boren Scholarship to study in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, where she will be taking an intensive Swahili language and culture course at the University of Dar Es Salaam while doing a mechanical engineering internship. Graduate students at the Bobby B. Lyle School of Engineering and Andrew Quicksall, the J. Lindsay Embrey Trustee Assistant Professor at the Lyle School, are traveling to Africa in fall 2011 as part of a new water quality research program in refugee camps. The group is bringing back water samples for analysis in SMU labs, where undergraduate and graduate students are searching for elevated levels of contaminants that can cause health problems. Corbin, a sophomore electrical engineering major in the Lyle School of Engineering and a President’s Scholar, is participating in SMU-in-Spain during Spring 2010. He plans to immerse himself in the culture and language, and take courses including modern painters and Spanish civilization. Continue reading
