Southern Methodist University’s Undergraduate Real Estate Club Wins Second Place at the 16th Annual Nolan Cornell International Real Estate Case Competition

New York City, NY – November 2024 – Southern Methodist University (SMU) is proud to announce that its Undergraduate Real Estate Club team has secured second place in the  16th Annual Cornell International Real Estate Case Competition, held this fall.

The Cornell International Real Estate Case Competition, one of the premier case competitions for undergraduate students, attracted 20 elite teams from universities across the United States, Canada, Asia, and Australia. Competing teams included representatives from the University of Sydney, University of Texas, University of Virginia, University of Miami, Chinese University of Hong Kong, University of Colorado, University of Guelph, University of Connecticut, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Villanova University, University of Massachusetts Amherst, McGill University, University of Michigan, University of British Columbia, Indiana University, University of New South Wales, Princeton University, Cornell University, University of Auckland and Southern Methodist University.

The SMU undergraduate team from the Cox School of Business delivered their real estate investment analysis and presentation to be judged by leaders in the real estate industry.   The competition required participants to address a complex real estate development case, showcasing their ability to analyze market trends, financial projections, and investment risks in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.

“We are incredibly proud of our team’s performance,” said Joseph Cahoon, Head of the SMU Real Estate Department, and Director of the Cox Folsom Institute for Real Estate. “Their hard work and dedication were evident throughout the competition. This achievement reflects the strength of our Real Estate Program at SMU and the caliber of talent within our student body. It’s a testament to their academic merit and passion for the real estate industry.”

The team, comprised of Braden Schlimme (Senior), Sean Meares (Senior), Daryl Eng (Senior), Carl Firch (Junior), Lexie Howell (Junior), and Amare Leslie (Junior), stood out for their ability to address key challenges in real estate development, financial modeling, and market positioning into their proposed solutions. The competition offered an opportunity for students to engage with real-world scenarios and connect with industry leaders, strengthening their professional development.
