Lou Moreira ’12

Lou Moreira is competing for Team USA Bobsled with his sights set on representing the United States in the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeonchang, South Korea. Prior to switching his focus to bobsledding, he was an award-winning bodybuilder. In 2014 he won a state bodybuilding championship and the title Mr. Texas.

Moreira earned a bachelor’s degree in applied physiology and sport management from SMU and is currently a graduate student in the Master of Business for Veterans (MBV) program at the USC Marshall School of Business. A combat veteran, he served in the U.S. Army, 82nd Airborne Infantry. He completed six years of service, including a 27-month combat deployment in Afghanistan, before enrolling at SMU. His wife, Jennifer Baker ’14, also a veteran, earned a bachelor’s degree in markets and culture from SMU and her MBV from USC in 2015.

Moreira has always been an outstanding athlete, earning All-American honors as a high-school hurdler. He still holds the Division I state record in the 55m hurdles, set in 2002 in his home state of Massachusetts.
