Substance Or Buzz: SMU Graduate Students Crack Interdisciplinary Code

A job ad analysis by a group of Dedman College Interdisciplinary Institute graduate fellows – Meghan Wadle, Michael Aiuvalasit, Carson Davis, Angel Gallardo, Bingchen Liu and Tim McGee – suggests some academic positions aren’t actually interdisciplinary. Among their findings: Jobs that appear truly interdisciplinary tend to be at institutions that have dedicated centers for such work. In a story about the research in Inside Higher Ed, Wadle says she’s lucky to have been exposed to faculty members familiar with emerging interdisciplinary methodologies.
