SMU Alumna Kathy Bates ’69 Wins Second Emmy

Actress Kathy Bates won the 2014 Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or Movie for her role in FX’s American Horror Story: Coven. Bates, a winner of numerous awards for her skills as an actress, graduated from SMU’s Meadows School of the Arts in 1969. For her exemplary contribution to the art and craft of acting, SMU conferred upon Kathy Bates the degree of Doctor of Arts, honoris causa, in 2002.
