SMU Residence Life and Student Housing (RLSH) recently held an RA Signing Day on February 28. RA Signing Day is a day to recognize and formally accept the students who will be serving as Resident Assistants (RA) in the Residential Commons for the coming school year.
“RA Signing day is to make students feel a sense of belonging within the Resident Life and Student Housing community amongst the professional staff members and their peers,” said Graduate Assistant for the Housing Unification Board (HUB), Mark Cordero. “Overall, presenting the RAs with vital information and professional staff through RA Signing Day develops an understanding of their obligations, resources, and feeling of validation of importance that their role pertains to the students, campus, and community.”
RAs do this in turn for the community by serving “as a role model for students in every aspect of University life” and knowing “the various campus services available to students. Each RA is expected to guide his or her residents in the understanding of community standards, as well as in upholding University policies and procedures.” It is a rewarding way to give back to SMU, and the RA Signing Day is the perfect way to kick off their commitment to the Commons community.
