Reporting to: External Affairs Project Manager, Nasher Sculpture Center
Schedule and compensation: Fifteen hours per week for ten weeks (Monday, June 2 through Friday, August 8, 2025.) $20 per hour (paid in four equal installments throughout the summer via SMU Payroll.)
Format: Hybrid, remote and in-person at the Nasher in downtown Dallas (2001 Flora Street, Dallas, Texas, 75201)
Preferred majors: Majors in Advertising, Art, Art History, Creative Computing, and/or Corporate Communication and Public Affairs are preferred candidates.
Organization’s mission: To be an international focal point and catalyst for the study, installation, conservation and appreciation of modern and contemporary sculpture.
Position overview: The Nasher Sculpture Center External Affairs Internship provides an excellent opportunity for a motivated undergraduate student to learn about marketing, public relations, and all other aspects of the department within a small cultural institution. Interns work under the guidance of the external affairs team on daily activities, acquiring knowledge and insight through writing press releases, proofreading and editing marketing materials, managing public relations data, assisting with event coordination, and creating content for social media.
We encourage our interns to sit in on all meetings possible with their schedule and value their voice and perspective. With the unique position of having a smaller staff, the Nasher offers interns the opportunity to explore all areas of museum operation and day-to-day activity providing a well-rounded view of life in an art museum and often ignites an area of interest interns may not have previously considered. Typical duties:
Assist in maintaining logs of press clippings culled from Meltwater links and print monitoring services.

Monitor visitor referral and rating sites (TripAdvisor, Yelp etc.) for new reviews. Keep a running report of reviews, note positive and negative feedback. Share with broader EA team and develop and share digestible reports.
Monitor printed stock and maintain both print and digital press kits for updates.
Assist social media in content creation for the museum’s social media channels.
Assist PR and Marketing teams at museum events – accompanying photographers, taking names, welcoming press and VIPs and assisting where necessary.
Assist marketing manger in periodically auditing the website for inconsistencies, missing exhibition or event information. Assist in working with other departments gathering content for same.
At the close of a program, exhibition or event, assist the EA team in compiling wrap-up reports including in-person attendance metrics, online engagement, visitor feedback, staff feedback, goal accomplishment etc.
Assist team in research efforts on upcoming exhibition artists and musicians who will be coming to the Nasher. Gather interesting facts, links, videos, photos, and send to External Affairs team.
Attend exhibition openings and other special events when possible. There will always be opportunities to assist in event execution.
Assist Digital Asset Management System Specialist and Librarian and Archivist in locating EA-specific materials to enter into system (new project for the Nasher).
Assist other External Affairs team members with various tasks and projects as needed. We will always try to tailor projects the student’s area of study or special interests.
Preferred skills: Self-starter and confident in working alone on self-paced projects.
Forms/Clearances: There will be a Non-disclosure Agreement (NDA) related to Nasher Prize that will need to be signed.
Other requirements: Intern will be expected to use a personal laptop.
