Touring Art in the World (Photos)
Division of Art Associate Professor of Photography Debora Hunter wants to students to engage with art outside the frame. Professor Hunter teaches a class called “Art in the World,” which is required for our second-year B.A. and B.F.A. students, and it puts artists in the field.
As part of a new fellowship program between SMU and École Nationale Supérieure d’Art (ENSA) in Dijon, France, French artist and student Hugo Capron is exhibiting his work at SMU’s Pollock Gallery from August 10-29.

Comedian Marc Maron’s podcast, WTF with Marc Maron, has grown like wildfire in the past year. Past guests have included Louis C.K., Robin Williams, Vince Gilligan, and very recently– President Barack Obama. SMU Meadows checked in with artist Brian R. Jones, who earned an M.F.A. from our Division of Art, to dispatch the story of how his ceramic mugs landed with the popular comedian. Jones’ work has been featured on Maron’s show and podcast steadily since 2011.

SMU’s Division of Art hosts an ongoing series of lectures and panels by an exciting group of artists, critics and curators. This series of discursive events is not only a crucial part of the graduate and undergraduate curriculum, it also provides a space for the Dallas community to engage with art and ideas.
