JOB DESCRIPTION

Reporting to: Education Program Manager, Broadway Dallas

Schedule & compensation: Thirty hours per week for ten weeks (Monday, June 1 through Friday, August 7, 2026.) A $3,000 stipend (the rough equivalent of $20 per hour for 150 hours) will be paid at the start of the internship through SMU Accounts Payable department. Additionally, hours worked beyond 150 will be compensated at a rate of $20 per hour and paid in installments throughout the duration of the internship by Broadway Dallas

Tentative camp dates are:
Middle School: June 8 – 19
Elementary School: July 6 – 17
High School: July 20 – August 1

Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. during these weeks. No additional time outside of these weeks is anticipated but may be scheduled by mutual agreement.

Format: In-person at Broadway Dallas’ headquarters Music Hall at Fair Park (909 1st Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75210) or nearby.

Preferred majors: Majors in Music (Performance, Music Education, Music Therapy), and/or Theatre are preferred candidates.

Organization’s mission: To entertain, educate, engage, and enrich Dallas.

Position overview: The Musical Theatre Summer Teaching Artist Assistant will work alongside Teaching Artists (TA) in Broadway Dallas’ musical theatre summer camp for elementary, middle, and high school students. The Teaching Artist Assistant will assist TAs in choreography, production, and music classes, as well as help facilitate summer camp fun!

Job description: Functions: Collaborate with BD Education & Community Partnerships (EdCP) staff members and Teaching Artists (TAs) during summer camp hours. Serve as assistants to TAs in-classroom and during breaks. Manage classroom/rehearsal behavior, assist campers in learning camp material, and lead arts/crafts activities. Strongly and positively represent BD to campers, parents, and other arts, education, and civic organizations in the community. Come be part of a nationally recognized arts education program at Broadway Dallas!

Other Responsibilities: Some office tasks and computer work. Must be able to lift/carry a maximum of 50 pounds, push/pull a maximum of 50 pounds, stand, sit, bend, and walk for extended periods of time. Must be able to work around children including sitting, standing, running, and climbing stairs.

Required skills: 

  • Experience working with children.
  • Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and ability to complete assigned tasks.
  • Demonstrated clear and concise written and verbal communications skills.
  • Access to consistent method of transport to/from the Music Hall at Fair Park and other designated work locations (venues, off-site event/meeting sites, etc.).

Preferred skills:

  • Teaching and administering theater education/community programs in a school or arts organization setting.
  • Fluency in Spanish.
  • Reading music and/or playing an instrument.
  • Stage management experience.
  • Demonstrated appreciation of musical theatre or the performing arts in general.

Other notes: We do not issue mobile phones, so the intern may be required to communicate with their supervisor using their personal phone. Background check through Broadway Dallas is required.
