Objectified.: A Film Screening and Panel Discussion

Lights, camera, action! In September, MADI headed to the theaters for a screening of the 2009 Gary Hustwit documentary Objectified. The film explores our complex relationship with manufactured objects, and, by extension, the people who design them. In partnership with SMU Product Design and Innovation, a new track within MADI, MADI students, alumni, faculty, and friends gathered to watch the film, reflect on its current place within today’s design conversation, and hear from design experts in a panel discussion. Featured panelists included Purva Chawla, Founder and Partner, MaterialDriven; Angela Crum, Associate Principal at CallisonRTKL; and Barbara Trippeer, Professor, UNT College of Visual Arts and Design. The panel was moderated by Dr. Seth Orsborn, Research Professor & Director of the Deason Innovation Gym.
