Email, Box, Sharepoint, my.SMU, Network drives… these are just a sampling of the IT services provided to SMU community.
Although many of these services are automatically provisioned for faculty, staff, and students, several are assigned by request only. These requests are generated by forms on help.smu.edu which are then processed by a number of teams within OIT as well as departments outside of OIT. The complexity of the process along with the length of time to complete these requests has been a source of frustration for many on campus. Therefore, an Operational Excellence initiative was launched to streamline and shorten the process to assign employee permissions to the various services required to do their job. SMU’s main website holds around 45,000 web pages, and each one of those pages runs on our Content Management System known as Sitecore. If you have editing privileges on any of SMU’s web pages, you may already know the basics of how Sitecore works, but you also realize how complex and intimidating the system can sometimes be.

Beginning December 15th, the IT Help Desk will move to Winter scheduling for hours. Our weekday hours will be 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. The IT Help Desk will also be closed on weekends until the Spring semester.
During the period from December 23rd to January 2nd, we will be closed for the Winter Break. During this time, the IT Help Desk voicemail will still be available for emergency IT issues.
The IT Help Desk will resume normal hours on January 23 in time for the first day of classes.

At the end of May, the Help Desk returned to Fondren Library. Our new expanded space is in the west lobby adjacent to the Collaborative Commons and Starbucks Café. If you haven’t yet seen the new renovations in Fondren Library, take a few minutes to come see the improvements. And, when you do, come check out the new help desk area.
