Microsoft Office Specialist LogoWe are delighted to announce that the Microsoft Office certification program, which initially started in 2017, has moved out of pilot phase and is now added to our list of permanent services offered by OIT. This program, administered by IT Training & Communications, is intended to serve as a student outreach and professional development opportunity for faculty and staff to engage in industry-standard certifications. Microsoft Office Certification Pilot Program Extended for Additional Year

Microsoft Office Specialist LogoIf you haven’t taken advantage of SMU’s Microsoft Office Pilot Program, it may be time to take a closer look! Last year, OIT announced a one-year pilot program to gauge interest in Certiport’s Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certifications.  During the pilot, Microsoft Office Specialist exam certifications in Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word have been offered for free to current SMU students, faculty, and staff. This industry-standard certification validates technical skills and speaks volumes to prospective employers. SMU students have quickly recognized this value as many who took this as a requirement for a course are returning to the labs to complete additional certifications. SMU Staff Engage in Microsoft Office Certification Pilot Program

Over two dozen Microsoft Office certifications have been issued to staff since the program’s launch in September. “I’m excited to see staff begin to engage in this learning opportunity,” explained Rachel Mulry, Director of OIT Customer Service. “While we have a history of offering training in Microsoft technologies we have never been able to meet the demand to train to all the various skill levels we have on campus. Upcoming Microsoft Office Certification Info Sessions

Get Certified with MOS CertificationDuring the 2017–2018 academic year, OIT will be providing access to the Microsoft Office Specialist Exams for free to current students. Get certified and stand out among other candidates for those upcoming internships and job interviews next spring! This 30-minute info session will walk you through the process of how to get started, where to get practice exams, and what to expect on the exams. You’ll also learn how to promote your certifications on LinkedIn and share digital transcripts with potential employers.

These info sessions will be located in the Hughes-Trigg Forum on Wednesday, October 18. Sessions will take place at 12:45, 1:30, 2:30, and 3:15.
