SMU Buildings and Roads has circulated a notice that electrical service will be shut off to several campus buildings as a part of campus construction activities. The shutdown will begin on Sunday, July 2, 2017, starting approximately at 11 p.m. and is expected to be completed by 6 a.m. This effort will be continued on Wednesday, July 5, 2017, starting at 11 p.m. and, again, ending at 6 a.m. the following morning. Offices in these buildings should remember to shut down computers and printers before the electrical service being shut off. Hackers don’t take off for summer vacation.
Just weeks after the WannaCry cyberattacks, a new ransomware outbreak called Petya is spreading across the globe. By this afternoon, it has already hit at least six countries and disabled business units. The malware is being delivered through emails disguised as business correspondence. The Office of Information Technology would like to remind you to be alert for suspicious emails/websites and to regularly update and backup your computer. The shutdown will begin on Saturday, June 24, 2017, starting approximately at 1 a.m. and is expected to be completed by 5 a.m. This effort will be continued on Wednesday, June 28, 2017, starting at 1 a.m. Offices in these buildings should remember to shut down computers and printers before the electrical service being shut off.
