DUO: A Substantial Expansion

DuoSix years ago, SMU implemented DUO to protect our data proactively. Since introducing two-factor authentication (2FA), we have seen quite an expansion throughout our services.

We first implemented DUO in 2016 to protect access to my.SMU and later webmail for our faculty and staff as passwords can often be stolen, guessed, and hacked, and we needed a solution to secure our data better. Once our faculty and staff gained familiarity with DUO, it was introduced to students on April 1, 2019, through our “Security is No Joke” campaign. Continue reading DUO: A Substantial Expansion

Celebrating Five Years of OIT’s Student Advisory Board

Here at OIT, it is one of our highest priorities to listen to our campus community; discover how they use technology in their work, and learn about their needs and desires for the short and long term. We do this in many ways, including through our multiple IT governance committees. Five years ago, a Student Advisory Board (SAB) was created to provide a way for our most spirited and dedicated Mustangs to provide their first-hand insights on how technology impacts their SMU experience. SMU’s ATSDs: Advancing Unique Technology Support for Instruction & Scholarship

ATSD Group PhotoAs we begin a new term, the Office of Information Technology (OIT) recently added new Academic Technology Service Directors, or ATSDs, to work as a liaison between faculty and OIT dedicated to each of SMU’s colleges and schools. This group of individuals ensures that the unique technology needs of academics and faculty in each school, specifically those required for instruction and scholarship, are well supported, integrated, and highly personalized.

Academic Technology Service Directors, while part of OIT, serve their communities by integrating into their schools. The ATSDs are strategically partnering with each area’s leadership while maintaining an “open door policy” for developing relationships with each faculty member.
