Discover Our New Advanced Flex Classrooms!

This past summer brought all kinds of classroom improvements to campus, including the addition of new Advanced Flex classrooms in the Lyle School of Engineering. These rooms are an expansion of the style of room first installed in Prothro Hall in 2022. The classroom technology is geared towards providing a top-tier lecture experience for both in-person and remote learners. If you’re scheduled in one of these rooms or are simply curious about how they work, take a look at our informative video series:

Empowering Students through Interactive Online Courses

We recently had the opportunity to sit down with one of SMU’s Online Learning Experience Designers, Prerna Munoth, to learn about her efforts to improve online course development at SMU. Prerna collaborates with faculty to transform traditional offline courses into synchronous and asynchronous online courses using quality measures outlined by the Quality Matters (QM) framework. Introducing the New Microsoft 365 Apps Exams

Over the summer, Microsoft released its latest versions of the Microsoft Office Specialist exams: Microsoft 365 Apps Associate and Microsoft 365 Apps Expert. Starting this semester, anyone interested in certifying with OIT will be offered the Microsoft 365 Apps exam, with the exception of the Outlook Associate exam, which is currently only available in the 2019 version. Podcasting to Transform the Ways of Learning: PODWalk’s Success in Uncertain Times

PODWalk LogoIn the opening months of the COVID-19 pandemic, the usual classroom environments and teaching modalities were turned upside down overnight. The sudden transition from in-class discussion and collaboration to talking to grid squares on a computer screen was a shock to the system for faculty and students alike. This change also meant easy burnout and frequent isolation, which Professor-of-Practice Radhika Zaveri immediately noticed. To remedy this, she created a novel solution.
