I recently met with Tyeson Seale, Director of Academic Technology for the Meadows School of the Arts, to learn more about the AI Teaching Workshop held at the Dedman School of Law on February 21, 2025.
The event, organized by the Manager of Canvas & Instructional Systems, Jennifer Mayes, featured several OIT speakers, including Eric Godat, Director of OIT Research, who presented on AI Foundations. Dedman School of Law’s ATSD James Pan presented AI teaching tools beyond chatbots, and introduced Notebook AI, a tool for content summarization and podcast generation. Tyeson Seale covered AI in the Classroom, encouraging faculty to explore how AI can streamline responses across different tools and discussed how AI can support class preparation.
“I was thrilled to present alongside my team and engage with leadership and faculty eager to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into their curriculum effectively and responsibly,” said Tyeson. “I also enjoyed seeing what tools the Law Faculty are currently using to support student success. I know some faculty may be wary of AI, but I encourage them to try it out personally first to see how they might benefit. If we see AI as an enemy, we’ll never understand its potential. Students want to use AI in the classroom now because they’ll encounter it in the marketplace. Our goal isn’t to replace academic expertise but to help faculty determine how to best use AI to enhance their expertise.”
To learn more about practical ways to incorporate AI into your classroom, contact your Academic Technology Service Director for a consultation. We also encourage faculty to review the Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) Guidance site for information about using AI in the classroom and for research.
