Feedback Box, the tool integrated into Canvas to collect anonymous student feedback, will be discontinued on April 30, 2025. This decision follows an announcement from the vendor that they will be ending their service. We have some information on alternatives you can use to collect feedback.
While Feedback Box has been a valuable resource for gathering anonymous student input, faculty members who have been using Feedback Box should plan to transition to other methods when the service ends. To assist with this transition, OIT is providing guidance on alternative tools for collecting student feedback. These alternatives include:
Canvas Quizzes (New & Classic)
-
- Create an ungraded quiz with open-ended or multiple-choice questions.
- Allow multiple attempts
- Assign To everyone with no due date
Canvas Discussion Boards
-
- If anonymity is important but open discussion is encouraged, faculty can enable anonymous posting in an ungraded Canvas Discussion.
Anonymous Assignment Submission
-
- Faculty can create an assignment that allows students to submit anonymous reflections or concerns.
- Allow unlimited attempts
-
Assign To everyone with no due date
Qualtrics Surveys
-
- An SMU-supported robust survey tool that ensures anonymity with advanced analytics.
Microsoft Forms
-
- Collect feedback for anonymous responses via Microsoft Forms.
Google Forms
-
- Collect feedback for anonymous responses via Google Forms.
Details on using these alternatives are available in this PDF.
