Windows 10 End of Life Set for October. Get Ready!

Windows 10In my years here at SMU, I’ve kind of become the defacto obituary writer for all kinds of systems and services that have been retired. Thankfully, seeing off one service usually means welcoming something new! In this case, Windows 10 Enterprise and Education versions will be officially retired by Microsoft on October 14, 2025, wrapping up a ten-year service life. We recommend upgrading your SMU device to Windows 11 at your earliest convenience, and here’s how.

How do I know I should upgrade?

To check your version of Windows, right-click the Windows (Start) button in your taskbar, then click System. Your Windows version will then appear in the Windows specifications section of the window. If it’s still on Windows 10, it’s time to upgrade!

We’ve recently added a self-service upgrade tool in your device’s Ivanti Portal Manager. Look for the Windows 11 Upgrade option and click Install to begin the process. The install will work in the background and should take around 45 minutes to complete.

Of course, always make sure any specialty software you use is compatible with Windows 11 and make sure you have a backup, just in case! If you have any questions or would like assistance in upgrading your devices, let us know and we can help!
